How I trim
Whether barefoot or shod, the trim is the foundation of all hoof care. My goal isn’t to create “perfect” feet in a single visit, but to support steady, meaningful improvement over time. While my trim differs slightly depending on if the horse is barefoot or shod, the principles of the trim are the same.
Each trim is shaped by factors like:
Capsule length and toe length
Sole depth and material quality
Fidelity between the hoof capsule and internal structures
Conformation and limb support
Existing distortion
Mobility limitations and musculature
Gait, posture, and landing patterns
Living environment and workload
Diet and overall health
If you have any questions about how I’d approach trimming your horse, please feel free to contact me.
Part of your team
Hoof care doesn’t exist in isolation. I believe horses do best when their care team communicates and works together. For that reason I am always happy to collaborate with various professionals to support your horse as a whole.
If veterinary support is necessary for hoof care, I prefer to be in direct communication if possible, whether that’s being present at the appointment, being sent notes afterward, or connecting with your vet over the phone. Having detailed information allows me to make more informed decisions and provide better care for your horse.
